KilnerArt Biography

Born in Bolton, Northwest England, I was brought up in an artistic and musical family and was encouraged from an early age to paint and draw from my surroundings.
I was academically trained at Bolton Art College, achieving my diploma in general art and design, and later attaining a HND in Visual Communications at North East Wales Institute, Wrexham North Wales.

I have pursued an artistic career since leaving college, ranging from Freelance Illustration, Advertising Design, Traditional Animation, and for the past decade have been specializing in Computer Graphics, Designing, Modeling and Texture Mapping for the Video Game Industry.
My major influences have been many and varied, of the traditional painters of the last century, the likes of John Singer Sargent remains at the top of the list, others include, Monet, Turner, Constable, Augustus John, Anders Zorn, Sorolla and many others.

Of the modern masters I have many favorites and too many to name them all, but having recently met one of my all time heroes of Fantasy Art, Frank Frazetta, I have a new respect for the modern master, and rate him as the Michelangelo of this past century, and a Painter and Illustrator that is looked up to by many peers.

I am currently living in southern California with my wife Fiona. I paint Plein Air paintings whenever I can outdoors and also attend the California Art Institute on a regular basis, where I brush up on my Painting and Drawing from the model.
